About the author
Georges Damien
I am a Lebanese citizen, a retired university professor. I taught French linguistics and stylistics at the Lebanese University for 35 years. I was also the director of a Lebanese high school for about 20 years. I did my secondary and university studies in Lebanon, then I have been in France for three years and obtained my doctorate in Aix-en-Provence.
As a writer and translator
During my active life, I have edited some forty collections of short stories, which I have subsequently published either alone or in partnership with another university professor. Since my retirement, I have written four books in French that I have self-published on Amazon kindle. The first is my memoirs as a high school principal. Its title in French is “De mémoire de directeur”. Then I collected the articles I had written on Facebook, and that is how my second book “My Facebook Posts” came about. My third book is an autobiography called “The Couch”. I also wrote a romance called in French “Une image de toi”. My fifth book is a novella called “Latif”. I translated all these books myself into English, and the romance was published in the United States by Austin Macauley under the title “Like an image”. I write regularly in Arabic and French and post several articles in Arabic, French, and English on Facebook. I also translated a Ph.D. thesis from Arabic into French and composed two long articles in Arabic, one on a Lebanese poem, and the other about one of the Arab rhetoricians, Al-Jurjani.
As a teacher
Teaching is my first passion, and I have spent most of my life teaching. I have been teaching the French language since I was very young, at twenty years old, first in the 4th and the 6th grade, then in secondary classes. I was so brilliant while doing my degree in French literature that the Lebanese University granted me a scholarship to do a Doctorate in French linguistics and stylistics in France. When I came back to Lebanon three years later, I started teaching at the Lebanese University, and I was in charge of teaching phonetics, syntax, and stylistics. In my spare time, I released a series of language books for students from the age of 6 to 11. At the same time, I was working on short stories for students between the ages of 12 and 16. I created about 40 of them. Later on, I was asked to become the French coordinator in some schools. I had to train the teachers, correct their mistakes and supervise their work. I would go into the classrooms and explain French lessons to them to set an example. I also practiced coordination in a school for the disabled and I was asked to compose vacation books for the students to work on during the summer months.
